How does the translation process work?
After agreeing on the terms and signing the contract, you send me the file in .docx and I'll get started on the translation! My behind the scenes looks exactly the same as yours: me at my desk, in a café or on my couch, immersed in your story until it's finished!
How long does it take to translate a book?
I typically complete a book translation within 1-2 weeks once I begin working on it. However, due to limited availability, the agreed deadline will usually fall within 3-6 weeks, as I may be finishing up another project beforehand.
What information do you need from me to get started?
When you reach out to me, the most useful information are book title, word count and genre, as well as an Amazon link if applicable. This information helps me to immediately determine my rate and the estimated deadline.
To get started, we will sign a contract. For this I will need your name, address, and signature. If you already have a contract you like to use with translators, you can send me that as well. If not, I have a contract I usually use. To find out more, have a look in the contract section of the Q&A.
After that, all I need is copy of your manuscript, along with any specific details about your project. This could include your preferred tone, target audience, and any special instructions or cultural nuances you’d like me to keep in mind.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, I typically require a deposit of about 20% the first time I work with a new client. This helps secure the project and ensures a smooth start to our collaboration.
What payment methods do you accept?
I prefer to use PayPal or Wise at the moment.
Are there additional costs for revisions or edits, blurbs or ads?
I don’t charge extra for translating ads or blurbs, nor do I charge a fee for revisions. I’m committed to delivering high-quality work, and if any issues arise, I’ll always ensure they’re resolved. For promotional texts, I’ve found the workload to be manageable enough that it doesn’t warrant additional charges.
Will I have to pay royalties?
No, you won’t have to pay royalties. Once the translation is complete and paid for, all rights to the translated text will belong to you. This is also mentioned in the contract.
Do you have a contract?
Yes, I have a standard contract that I use with most clients, outlining the general terms and conditions to protect both parties. The contract can be tailored for one book or multiple books, and I’m always open to making adjustments to meet your specific needs. Do you have experience translating other romance sub-genres?

Do you provide sample translations?
Yes, I’m happy to provide sample translations if you’d like! I offer free sample translations for up to 2,000 words, so you can see how your story will be translated before committing.
Do you work with editors or proofreaders?
No, I currently don’t work directly with editors or proofreaders, but I’m more than happy to collaborate and communicate with anyone you have on your team to ensure the best result for your book.
Can I give feedback during the translation process?
Yes, absolutely. You can message me anytime to find out how the translation is going.
How do you handle cultural references or idioms in my book?
I adapt cultural references and idioms to ensure they resonate with readers while preserving the intent and tone of the original text. If a direct translation doesn’t work, I find equivalent expressions or creative solutions to maintain the spirit of your story. If something major doesn't work in German at all, I will message you, and we'll talk about replacements. If it doesn't work and doesn't impact the story, I will leave it out (this happens approximately once every 50.000 words).
What if I want changes after the translation is complete?
If you’d like changes after the translation is complete, I’ll gladly make revisions to ensure you’re fully satisfied with the final result. I don’t charge extra for reasonable revisions, as my goal is to deliver a translation that meets your expectations and leaves potential for a long term collaboration.
Will I have the copyright to the translated version of my book?
Yes, once the translation is complete and paid for, you will retain full copyright to the translated version of your book. The rights belong entirely to you.
Can you translate into other languages besides German?
No, German is my native language and the only one I feel comfortable delivering amazing results in.
Do you sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs)?
Yes, I’m happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
